Wild Pet Trade

Keeping wild animals as pets is a common practice in Amazonian communities, however it may have negative impacts due to the inability to properly care for the animals. Researchers are often brought in to rescue the wild animals and send them to rehabilitation centers.

This jaguar cub was being raised as a pet in a local community but became too aggresive to keep. Researchers were called in to take the cub to proper facilities.

After three years of being kept in a wooden cage, this endangered wooly monkey was also rescued and taken to a rehabilitation center.
